Data Changelog

When schedules refresh, methodology shifts, or we fix something we published wrong, we log it here. Each entry names what changed, which pages it touched, and the official source where applicable. This record starts in August 2026; we are not reconstructing earlier changes from memory.

  1. (deploy cc28ee8)

Cross-state ranking boards returned to the public index

Scope: Four URLs: /rankings/ hub plus three $100K and $200K scenario-comparison boards

After an M42 destination review, the ranking class was re-admitted with index, follow and honest sitemap lastmods. The boards compute a shared-income burden comparison across all jurisdictions, a task no single state DOR page performs. State detail pages were left unchanged as the control surface.

  2. (deploy c0535fd)

Deep-linkable section anchors on every primary page type

Scope: Homepage, federal, state detail, compare, guides, tools, rankings, and research pages (175 static headings; filing-status-keyed IDs on dynamic federal schedules)

Added stable id attributes so readers and assistive tech can link directly to a section (e.g. a bracket table or methodology block). No schedule values or formulas changed.

  3. (deploy a0f930e)

Saved-state watchlist for annual refresh comparison

Scope: Homepage panel, /saved-states/, and save affordance on state detail pages

Readers can pin jurisdictions in local storage and return via a shareable ?w= URL to re-check the same states after a schedule vintage update. Data still comes from the live schedule tables; nothing is stored server-side.

  4. (deploy dacf13a)

Named IRS and state DOR vintage lines on primary data pages

Scope: State detail, rankings, compare, calculator, and guide page types

Every figure block now carries an According-to line naming the issuing authority (IRS Revenue Procedure or the state Department of Revenue) and tax year 2026. Takeaways and trust footers use the same vintage instead of a generic "official data" label.

  5. (verified LIVE tip 13bed34)

Invalid jurisdiction URLs return HTTP 404 with noindex

Scope: Any /states/{slug}/ path with no matching row in the schedule database

Previously some unknown slugs could render an empty shell. They now return a real 404 response and noindex, follow so crawlers do not index placeholder addresses.
